Time to Unite

Hello friends, my name is Winston Smith. I am a thirty-nine year old man with medical problems and a harmful drinking habit, and today I have an urgent message for you. Big Brother does not represent you and does not care about you. I, being a loyal party member for many years, know that they don’t. I work in the Ministry of Truth, and on a daily basis I distort, censor, and erase that truth. Big Brother doesn’t want you Proles to know that you are being used as mere serfs in a plan to gain complete power over all of Oceania. They view you as inferior, and only let you have the freedom that you have because they see you as benign and unable to rise up. They control all the economic resources and create all the laws, and they leave no way for another party to democratically win over the power.
The common man controls the numbers; they simply do not yet possess the awareness that they are being treated as a commodity nor realize that they don’t have to be used in such a manner. If you unite as one conscious body of protesters you could overthrow the dictatorship that overshadows your every move. You could live free from the bondage of oppression and illusion.
We work day in and day out, but to what end? We get nowhere, we gain nothing, and we learn nothing. We make no difference; we have no say in the bigger picture. We aren't allow to marry for love only for procreation to add members to The Party. We aren't allow to think thoughts that go outside the tight constrictions place by Big Brother, to strengthen our faith in IngSoc. Why can’t we give ourselves a voice in society? If we gather as force, I believe we can.
Why should the 1% possess 99% of the wealth and power? Even though they act like they distribute fairly, they only distribute evenly among you all. They keep most of the money and the control for themselves. They make laws that allow them to get away with their malevolence and prevent people from speaking out against it. Why should we tolerate this?
They treat us as sub-human, unworthy of attention or care. They constrict our growth, our independence and our individuality. This is simply intolerable. We must wake up and see that our minds are chained, and they have programmed us for complacency. We do not have to accept these conditions, and we owe it to our descendants to create a better society before it is too late, and we have passed the point of no return, where our thoughts are not even our own.
I fervently plead with you, Proles, to take a stand against Big Brother. If we march against them, they can’t stop us. Only we can stop us, and by not taking action we are stopping ourselves. If they provoke, we provoke, if they fight, we fight, if they call for peace, we call for peace. But no more of the fantasy and illusion of peace. The Proles deserve much better, and it is in your grasp.
